GUIDE TO LINGSHAN BUDDHIST SCENIC SPOT
A 21st-century pilgrimage site featuring the 88m-tall Lingshan Grand Buddha. The "Nine Dragons Bathing Sakyamuni" show combines music, fountains and a 7-ton rising lotus.
Nestled on the banks of Taihu Lake in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, Lingshan Scenic Area is a renowned 5A-level cultural and tourist destination, integrating Buddhist heritage, natural beauty, and modern architecture. Established in 1997, it spans 30 hectares and centers around the "Three Pillars": Xiaoling Mountain (a sacred site linked to Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang), the 1,000-year-old Xiangfu Temple, and the 88-meter-tall Grand Buddha at Lingshan—China’s tallest outdoor bronze Buddha statue, symbolizing the "Eastern Buddha" in the national "Five Directions of Buddhas" framework.
Key attractions include the dynamic Nine Dragons Bathing the Buddha sculpture, which reenacts Sakyamuni’s birth with water jets and lotus blooms; the opulent Lingshan Vatican Palace, a masterpiece blending Buddhist art and modern design; and the Tibetan-style Five Seal Stupa, showcasing diverse Buddhist cultures. The site also features cultural elements like the "Cloud-Climbing Path" (216 steps symbolizing overcoming life’s 108 troubles) and historical relics like the Hexagonal Well, once praised by tea master Lu Yu.
Today, Lingshan Scenic Area remains a spiritual and cultural hub, attracting pilgrims and tourists alike to experience Buddhism’s essence and architectural grandeur.
